PWSC31 2.1 Compare ways to establish the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of an individual. You could ask the individual themselves this is the most effective way and it encourages the individual to take control. The disadvantages could be that the individual may lack in confidence or they may have communication difficulties. You could read the care plans which can give you information if the individual can’t communicate their needs the disadvantages are that the care plan may be out of date and need reviewing, it might not be accurate or may have been written with out much involvement from the individual. You could also talk to the family and friends they may have good information about the individuals the disadvantages are that they may communicate their own wishes and not know the wishes of the individual. 2.3 Describe a range of communication methods and styles to meet individual’s needs. Verbal communication is one by asking questions you can asked closed or open questions or just talking to the individual we can show empathy and understanding.
